Exodus 6:12
12
And
Moses
spake
before
the
LORD,
saying,
Behold,
the
children
of
Israel
have
not
hearkened
unto
me;
how
then
shall
Pharaoh

me,
who
am
of

1
And
it
came
to
pass,
when
he
had
made
an
end
of
speaking
unto
Saul,
that
the
soul
of
Jonathan
was
knit
with
the
soul
of
David,
and
Jonathan
loved
him
as
his
own
soul.
2
And
Saul
took
him
that
day,
and
would
let
him
go
no
more
home
to
his
father’s
house.
3
Then
Jonathan
and
David
made
a
covenant,
because
he
loved
him
as
his
own
soul.
4
And
Jonathan
stripped
himself
of
the
robe
that
was
upon
him,
and
gave
it
to
David,
and
his
garments,
even
to
his
sword,
and
to
his
bow,
and
to
his
girdle.
5
And
David
went
out
whithersoever
Saul
sent
him,
and
behaved
himself
wisely:
and
Saul
set
him
over
the
men
of
war,
and
he
was
accepted
in
the
sight
of
all
the
people,
and
also
in
the
sight
of
Saul’s
servants.
6
And
it
came
to
pass
as
they
came,
when
David
was
returned
from
the
slaughter
of
the
Philistine,
that
the
women
came
out
of
all
cities
of
Israel,
singing
and
dancing,
to
meet
king
Saul,
with
tabrets,
with
joy,
and
with
instruments
of
musick.
7
And
the
women
answered
one
another
as
they
played,
and
said,
Saul
hath
slain
his
thousands,
and
David
his
ten
thousands.
8
And
Saul
was
very
wroth,
and
the
saying
displeased
him;
and
he
said,
They
have
ascribed
unto
David
ten
thousands,
and
to
me
they
have
ascribed
but
thousands:
and
what
can
he
have
more
but
the
kingdom?
9
And
Saul
eyed
David
from
that
day
and
forward.
10
And
it
came
to
pass
on
the
morrow,
that
the
evil
spirit
from
God
came
upon
Saul,
and
he
prophesied
in
the
midst
of
the
house:
and
David
played
with
his
hand,
as
at
other
times:
and
there
was
a
javelin
in
Saul’s
hand.
11
And
Saul
cast
the
javelin;
for
he
said,
I
will
smite
David
even
to
the
wall
with
it.
And
David
avoided
out
of
his
presence
twice.
12
And
Saul
was
afraid
of
David,
because
the
LORD
was
with
him,
and
was
departed
from
Saul.
13
Therefore
Saul
removed
him
from
him,
and
made
him
his
captain
over
a
thousand;
and
he
went
out
and
came
in
before
the
people.
14
And
David
behaved
himself
wisely
in
all
his
ways;
and
the
LORD
was
with
him.
15
Wherefore
when
Saul
saw
that
he
behaved
himself
very
wisely,
he
was
afraid
of
him.
16
But
all
Israel
and
Judah
loved
David,
because
he
went
out
and
came
in
before
them.
17
And
Saul
said
to
David,
Behold
my
elder
daughter
Merab,
her
will
I
give
thee
to
wife:
only
be
thou
valiant
for
me,
and
fight
the
LORD’S
battles.
For
Saul
said,
Let
not
mine
hand
be
upon
him,
but
let
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
be
upon
him.
18
And
David
said
unto
Saul,
Who
am
I?
and
what
is
my
life,
or
my
father’s
family
in
Israel,
that
I
should
be
son
in
law
to
the
king?
19
But
it
came
to
pass
at
the
time
when
Merab
Saul’s
daughter
should
have
been
given
to
David,
that
she
was
given
unto
Adriel
the
Meholathite
to
wife.
20
And
Michal
Saul’s
daughter
loved
David:
and
they
told
Saul,
and
the
thing
pleased
him.
21
And
Saul
said,
I
will
give
him
her,
that
she
may
be
a
snare
to
him,
and
that
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
may
be
against
him.
Wherefore
Saul
said
to
David,
Thou
shalt
this
day
be
my
son
in
law
in
the
one
of
the
twain.
22
And
Saul
commanded
his
servants,
saying,
Commune
with
David
secretly,
and
say,
Behold,
the
king
hath
delight
in
thee,
and
all
his
servants
love
thee:
now
therefore
be
the
king’s
son
in
law.
23
And
Saul’s
servants
spake
those
words
in
the
ears
of
David.
And
David
said,
Seemeth
it
to
you
a
light
thing
to
be
a
king’s
son
in
law,
seeing
that
I
am
a
poor
man,
and
lightly
esteemed?
24
And
the
servants
of
Saul
told
him,
saying,
On
this
manner
spake
David.
25
And
Saul
said,
Thus
shall
ye
say
to
David,
The
king
desireth
not
any
dowry,
but
an
hundred
foreskins
of
the
Philistines,
to
be
avenged
of
the
king’s
enemies.
But
Saul
thought
to
make
David
fall
by
the
hand
of
the
Philistines.
26
And
when
his
servants
told
David
these
words,
it
pleased
David
well
to
be
the
king’s
son
in
law:
and
the
days
were
not
expired.
27
Wherefore
David
arose
and
went,
he
and
his
men,
and
slew
of
the
Philistines
two
hundred
men;
and
David
brought
their
foreskins,
and
they
gave
them
in
full
tale
to
the
king,
that
he
might
be
the
king’s
son
in
law.
And
Saul
gave
him
Michal
his
daughter
to
wife.
28
And
Saul
saw
and
knew
that
the
LORD
was
with
David,
and
that
Michal
Saul’s
daughter
loved
him.
29
And
Saul
was
yet
the
more
afraid
of
David;
and
Saul
became
David’s
enemy
continually.
30
Then
the
princes
of
the
Philistines
went
forth:
and
it
came
to
pass,
after
they
went
forth,
that
David
behaved
himself
more
wisely
than
all
the
servants
of
Saul;
so
that
his
name
was
much
set
by.

people.
14
And
David
behaved
himself
wisely
in
all
his
ways;
and
the
LORD
was
with
him.
15
Why
when
Saul
saw
that
he
behaved
himself
very
wisely,
he
was
afraid
of
him.
16
But
all
Israel
and
Judah
loved
David,
because
he
went
out
and
came
in
before
them.
17
And
Saul
said
to
David,
Behold
my
elder
daughter
Merab,
her
will
I
give
you
to
wife:
only
be
you
valiant
for
me,
and
fight
the
LORD's
battles.
For
Saul
said,
Let
not
my
hand
be
on
him,
but
let
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
be
on
him.
18
And
David
said
to
Saul,
Who
am
I?
and
what
is
my
life,
or
my
father's
family
in
Israel,
that
I
should
be
son
in
law
to
the
king?
19
But
it
came
to
pass
at
the
time
when
Merab
Saul's
daughter
should
have
been
given
to
David,
that
she
was
given
to
Adriel
the
Meholathite
to
wife.
20
And
Michal
Saul's
daughter
loved
David:
and
they
told
Saul,
and
the
thing
pleased
him.
21
And
Saul
said,
I
will
give
him
her,
that
she
may
be
a
snare
to
him,
and
that
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
may
be
against
him.
Why
Saul
said
to
David,
You
shall
this
day
be
my
son
in
law
in
the
one
of
the
two.
22
And
Saul
commanded
his
servants,
saying,
Commune
with
David
secretly,
and
say,
Behold,
the
king
has
delight
in
you,
and
all
his
servants
love
you:
now
therefore
be
the
king's
son
in
law.
23
And
Saul's
servants
spoke
those
words
in
the
ears
of
David.
And
David
said,
Seems
it
to
you
a
light
thing
to
be
a
king's
son
in
law,
seeing
that
I
am
a
poor
man,
and
lightly
esteemed?
24
And
the
servants
of
Saul
told
him,
saying,
On
this
manner
spoke
David.
25
And
Saul
said,
Thus
shall
you
say
to
David,
The
king
desires
not
any
dowry,
but
an
hundred
foreskins
of
the
Philistines,
to
be
avenged
of
the
king's
enemies.
But
Saul
thought
to
make
David
fall
by
the
hand
of
the
Philistines.
26
And
when
his
servants
told
David
these
words,
it
pleased
David
well
to
be
the
king's
son
in
law:
and
the
days
were
not
expired.
27
Why
David
arose
and
went,
he
and
his
men,
and
slew
of
the
Philistines
two
hundred
men;
and
David
brought
their
foreskins,
and
they
gave
them
in
full
tale
to
the
king,
that
he
might
be
the
king's
son
in
law.
And
Saul
gave
him
Michal
his
daughter
to
wife.
28
And
Saul
saw
and
knew
that
the
LORD
was
with
David,
and
that
Michal
Saul's
daughter
loved
him.
29
And
Saul
was
yet
the
more
afraid
of
David;
and
Saul
became
David's
enemy
continually.
30
Then
the
princes
of
the
Philistines
went
forth:
and
it
came
to
pass,
after
they
went
forth,
that
David
behaved
himself
more
wisely
than
all
the
servants
of
Saul;
so
that
his
name
was
much
set
by.

When
David
had
finished
talking
with
Saul,
Jonathan
and
David
became
bound
together
in
close
friendship.
Jonathan
loved
David
as
much
as
he
did
his
own
life.
2
Saul
retained
David
on
that
day
and
did
not
allow
him
to
return
to
his
father's
house.
3
Jonathan
made
a
covenant
with
David,
for
he
loved
him
as
much
as
he
did
his
own
life.
4
Jonathan
took
off
the
robe
he
was
wearing
and
gave
it
to
David,
along
with
the
rest
of
his
gear,
including
his
sword,
his
bow,
and
even
his
belt.
5
On
every
mission
on
which
Saul
sent
him,
David
achieved
success.
So
Saul
appointed
him
over
the
men
of
war.
This
pleased
not
only
all
the
army,
but
also
Saul's
servants.
6
When
the
men
arrived
after
David
returned
from
striking
down
the
Philistine,
the
women
from
all
the
cities
of
Israel
came
out
singing
and
dancing
to
meet
King
Saul.
They
were
happy
as
they
played
their
tambourines
and
three-stringed
instruments.
7
The
women
who
were
playing
the
music
sang,
"Saul
has
struck
down
his
thousands,
but
David
his
tens
of
thousands!"
8
This
made
Saul
very
angry.
The
statement
displeased
him
and
he
thought,
"They
have
attributed
to
David
tens
of
thousands,
but
to
me
they
have
attributed
only
thousands.
What
does
he
lack,
except
the
kingdom?"
9
So
Saul
was
keeping
an
eye
on
David
from
that
day
onward.
10
The
next
day
an
evil
spirit
from
God
rushed
upon
Saul
and
he
prophesied
within
his
house.
Now
David
was
playing
the
lyre
that
day.
There
was
a
spear
in
Saul's
hand,
11
and
Saul
threw
the
spear,
thinking,
"I'll
nail
David
to
the
wall!"
But
David
escaped
from
him
on
two
different
occasions.
12
So
Saul
feared
David,
because
the
LORD
was
with
him
but
had
departed
from
Saul.
13
Saul
removed
David
from
his
presence
and
made
him
a
commanding
officer.
David
led
the
army
out
to
battle
and
back.
14
Now
David
achieved
success
in
all
he
did,
for
the
LORD
was
with
him.
15
When
Saul
saw
how
very
successful
he
was,
he
was
afraid
of
him.
16
But
all
Israel
and
Judah
loved
David,
for
he
was
the
one
leading
them
out
to
battle
and
back.
17
Then
Saul
said
to
David,
"Here's
my
oldest
daughter,
Merab.
I
want
to
give
her
to
you
in
marriage.
Only
be
a
brave
warrior
for
me
and
fight
the
battles
of
the
LORD."
For
Saul
thought,
"There's
no
need
for
me
to
raise
my
hand
against
him.
Let
it
be
the
hand
of
the
Philistines!"
18
David
said
to
Saul,
"Who
am
I?
Who
are
my
relatives
or
the
clan
of
my
father
in
Israel
that
I
should
become
the
king's
son-in-law?"
19
When
the
time
came
for
Merab,
Saul's
daughter,
to
be
given
to
David,
she
instead
was
given
in
marriage
to
Adriel,
who
was
from
Meholah.
20
Now
Michal,
Saul's
daughter,
loved
David.
When
they
told
Saul
about
this,
it
pleased
him.
21
Saul
said,
"I
will
give
her
to
him
so
that
she
may
become
a
snare
to
him
and
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
may
be
against
him."
So
Saul
said
to
David,
"Today
is
the
second
time
for
you
to
become
my
son-in-law."
22
Then
Saul
instructed
his
servants,
"Tell
David
secretly,
'The
king
is
pleased
with
you,
and
all
his
servants
like
you.
So
now
become
the
king's
son-in-law."
23
So
Saul's
servants
spoke
these
words
privately
to
David.
David
replied,
"Is
becoming
the
king's
son-in-law
something
insignificant
to
you?
I'm
just
a
poor
and
lightly-esteemed
man!"
24
When
Saul's
servants
reported
what
David
had
said,
25
Saul
replied,
"Here
is
what
you
should
say
to
David:
'There
is
nothing
that
the
king
wants
as
a
price
for
the
bride
except
a
hundred
Philistine
foreskins,
so
that
he
can
be
avenged
of
his
enemies.'"
(Now
Saul
was
thinking
that
he
could
kill
David
by
the
hand
of
the
Philistines.)
26
So
his
servants
told
David
these
things
and
David
agreed
to
become
the
king's
son-in-law.
Now
the
specified
time
had
not
yet
expired
27
when
David,
along
with
his
men,
went
out
and
struck
down
two
hundred
Philistine
men.
David
brought
their
foreskins
and
presented
all
of
them
to
the
king
so
he
could
become
the
king's
son-in-law.
Saul
then
gave
him
his
daughter
Michal
in
marriage.
28
When
Saul
realized
that
the
LORD
was
with
David
and
that
his
daughter
Michal
loved
David,
29
Saul
became
even
more
afraid
of
him.
Saul
continued
to
be
at
odds
with
David
from
then
on.
30
Then
the
leaders
of
the
Philistines
would
march
out,
and
as
often
as
they
did
so,
David
achieved
more
success
than
all
of
Saul's
servants.
His
name
was
held
in
high
esteem.

so
Saul

This

everyone,
even
Saul's

6
David
would
go
out
to
fight
against
the
Philistines.
On
the
way
home
after
the
battles,
women
in
every
town
in
Israel
would
come
out

They
sang
and
danced
for
joy
as
they

They
did
this

in

of

7
The
women
sang,
"Saul
has
killed
his
thousands,
but
David
has
killed
tens
of

8
This
song
upset
Saul
and
he
became
very
angry.
Saul
thought,
"The
women
give
David
credit
for
killing
tens
of
thousands
of
the
enemy,
and
they
give
me
credit
for
only
thousands.
A
little
more
of
this
and
they
will
give
him
the
kingdom
itself!
"
9
So
from
that
time
on,
Saul
watched
David
very
closely.
10
The
next
day,
an
evil
spirit
from
God
took
control
of
Saul
and
he
went
wild
in
his
house.
David
played
the
harp
to
calm
him
as
he
usually
did,
11
but
Saul
had
a
spear
in
his
hand.
He
thought,
"I'll
pin
David
to
the
wall."
Saul
threw
the
spear
twice,
but
David
jumped
out
of
the
way
both
times.
12
The
Lord
had
left
Saul
and
was
now
with
David,
so
Saul
was
afraid
of
David.
13
Saul
sent
David
away
and
made
him
a
commander
over
1000
soldiers.
This
put
David
out
among
the
men
even
more
as
they
went
into
battle
and
returned.
14
The
Lord
was
with
David,
so
he
was
successful
in
everything.
15
Saul
saw
how
successful
David
was
and
became
even
more
afraid
of
him.
16
But
all
the
people
in
Israel
and
Judah
loved
David
because
he
was
out
among
them
and
led
them
into
battle.
17
One
day,
Saul
said
to
David,
"Here
is
my
oldest
daughter,
Merab.
I
will
let
you
marry
her.
Then
you
will
be
like
a
son
to
me
and
you
will
be
a
real
soldier.
Then
you
will
go
and
fight
the
Lord's
battles."
Saul
was
really
thinking,
"Now
I
won't
have
to
kill
David.
I
will
let
the
Philistines
kill
him
for
me."
18
But
David
said,
"I
am
not
an
important
man
from
an
important
family.
I
can't
marry
the
king's
daughter."
19
So
when
the
time
came
for
David
to
marry
Saul's
daughter,
Saul
let
her
marry
Adriel
from
Meholah.
20
People
told
Saul
that
his
daughter
Michal
loved
David.
This
made
Saul
happy.
21
He
thought,
"I
will
use
Michal
to
trap
David.
I
will
let
Michal
marry
David,
and
then
I
will
let
the
Philistines
kill
him."
So
Saul
said
to
David
a
second
time,
"You
can
marry
my
daughter
today."
22
Saul
command
his
officers
to
speak
to
David
in
private.
He
told
them
to
say,
"Look,
the
king
likes
you.
His
officers
like
you.
You
should
marry
his
daughter."
23
Saul's
officers
said
these
things
to
David,
but
David
answered,
"Do
you
think
it
is
easy
to
become
the
king's
son-in-law?
I
am
just
a
poor,
ordinary
man."
24
Saul's
officers
told
Saul
what
David
said.
25
Saul
told
them,
"Say
this
to
David,
'David,
the
king
doesn't
want
you
to
pay
money
for
his
daughter.
He
wants

his
enemy,
so
the
price
for
marrying
his
daughter
is
100
Philistine
foreskins.'"
That
was
Saul's
secret
plan.
He
thought
the
Philistines
would
kill
David.
26
Saul's
officers
told
this
to
David.
David
was
happy
that
he
had
a
chance
to
become
the
king's
son-in-law,
so
immediately
27
he
and
his
men
went
out
to
fight
the
Philistines.
They
killed
200
Philistines.
David
took
these
Philistine
foreskins
and
gave
them
to
Saul.
David
did
this
because
he
wanted
to
become
the
king's
son-in-law.
Saul
let
David
marry
his
daughter
Michal.
28
He
saw
that
the
Lord
was
with
David
and
he
also
saw
that
his
daughter,
Michal,
loved
David.
29
So
Saul
became
even
more
afraid
of
David
and
was
against
David
all
that
time.
30
The
Philistine
commanders
continued
to
go
out
to
fight
the
Israelites,
but
David
defeated
them
every
time.
He
became
famous
as
Saul's
best
officer.

And
Saul
said,
Let

my
hand
be
upon
him,
but
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
shall

upon

18
And
David
said
to
Saul,
Who
am
I,
and
what
is
the
life
of
my
father’s
family
in
Israel,
that
I
should

it

Merob
Saul’s
daughter

that
she
was
given

Melchol
the

Saul
loved
David;
and
it
was

21
And
Saul
said,
I

Now
the

23
And
the

David
said,
Is

Whereas
I
am

man,

24
And
the
servants
of
Saul
reported
to
him
according

words,
which
David
spoke.
25
And
Saul
said,
Thus
shall
ye
speak
to
David,
The
king
wants
no
gift
but
a
hundred
foreskins
of
the
Philistines,
to
avenge
himself
on
the
kings
enemies.
Now
Saul

David
arose,

Saul

he

spear,
thinking,

David

all
that
he

For
Saul
thought,
"I
will
not
go

him.
Let
the
Philistines
go
against
him."
18
David
said
to
Saul,
"Who
am
I?
What
is
my
life
or
my
father's
family
in
Israel,
that
I

19
But
at
the
time

Saul's
daughter
Merab
should
have
been
given
to
David,
she
was
given
to
Adriel
the

Now
Saul's
daughter
Michal
loved
David.
When
they
told
Saul,
it
pleased
him.
21
Saul
thought,
"I
will

her

David.
I
will

Saul

23
So
Saul's

But
David

24
Saul's
servants
told
Saul
what
David

said.

Then
Saul
said,
"Say

David,

the
sex
parts

those
who
hate
the
king.'
"
Saul
planned
to
have
the
Philistines
kill
David.
26
When
his
servants
told
this
to
David,
it
pleased
him
to

the
king's
son-in-law.
Before
the
time
was
finished,
27
David
and
his
men

Philistine

Then
David
brought
their

flesh

gave
all
of
them

the
king,
that
he

So
David

14
He
had
great
success
in
everything
he
did

Saul
thought,

24
When

Saul

in
the
eyes
of
the
servants
of
Saul.
6
And
it
happened
as
they
came
in,
as
David
returned
from
striking
the
Philistine,
the
women
came
out
from
all
the
cities
of
Israel
to
sing
with
the
dancers,
to
meet
Saul
the
king
with
tambourines
and
with
joy
and
three-stringed
instruments.
7
And
the
women
who
were
playing
answered
and
said,
Saul
has
slain
his
thousands,
but
David
his
myriads.
8
And
it
very
much
burned
Saul,
and
this
thing
was
evil
in
his
eyes.
And
he
said,
They
have
given
myriads
to
David,
and
to
me
they
have
given
thousands.
And
is
there
more
to
him,
except
the
kingdom?
9
And
from
that
day
forward
Saul
was
watching
David.
10
And
on
the
next
day
it
happened
that
the
evil
spirit
from
God
came
on
Saul.
And
he
prophesied
in
the
midst
of
the
house;
and
David
was
playing
with
his
hand,
as
he
did
day
by
day.
And
Saul's
spear
was
in
his
hand.
11
And
Saul
threw
the
spear,
and
said,
I
will
strike
David,
even
to
the
wall.
And
David
twice
drew
back
from
his
face.
12
And
Saul
feared
David,
because
Jehovah
was
with
him,
and
had
departed
from
Saul.
13
And
Saul
separated
him
from
himself
and
set
him
as
his
commander
over
a
thousand.
And
he
went
out
and
came
in
before
the
people.
14
And
David
acted
wisely
in
all
his
ways,
and
Jehovah
was
with
him.
15
And
Saul
saw
that
he
was
acting
wisely,
and
was
afraid
of
him.
16
And
all
Israel
and
Judah
loved
David,
for
he
went
out
and
came
in
before
them.
17
And
Saul
said
to
David,
Behold
my
elder
daughter
Merab!
I
will
give
her
to
you
for
a
wife;
only,
you
be
a
brave
son
for
me
and
fight
the
battles
of
Jehovah.
And
Saul
said,
Let
not
my
hand
be
on
him,
but
let
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
be
on
him.
18
And
David
said
to
Saul,
Who
am
I,
and
what
is
my
life,
and
the
family
of
my
father
in
Israel,
that
I
should
be
son-in-law
to
the
king?
19
And
it
happened
at
the
time
Saul
was
to
give
his
daughter
Merab
to
David,
she
was
given
to
Adriel
the
Meholathite
for
a
wife.
20
And
Saul's
daughter
Michal
loved
David.
And
they
told
Saul,
and
the
thing
was
right
in
his
eyes.
21
And
Saul
said,
I
will
give
her
to
him,
and
she
shall
be
a
snare
to
him.
And
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
shall
be
on
him.
And
Saul
said
to
David
a
second
time,
You
shall
be
my
son-in-law
today.
22
And
Saul
commanded
his
servants,
Speak
to
David
secretly,
saying,
Behold
the
king
delights
in
you,
and
all
his
servants
love
you.
And
now,
be
son-in-law
to
the
king.
23
And
Saul's
servants
spoke
these
words
in
David's
ears.
And
David
said,
Is
it
a
light
thing
in
your
eyes
to
be
son-in-law
to
the
king?
And
I
am
a
poor
man,
and
lightly
esteemed.
24
And
Saul's
servants
spoke
to
him,
saying,
David
has
spoken
according
to
these
words.
25
And
Saul
said,
So
you
shall
say
to
David,
There
is
no
delight
to
the
king
in
dowry,
but
in
a
hundred
foreskins
of
the
Philistines,
to
be
avenged
on
the
king's
enemies.
And
Saul
thought
to
cause
David
to
fall
by
the
hand
of
the
Philistines.
26
And
his
servants
told
David
these
words.
And
the
thing
was
right
in
David's
eyes,
to
be
son-in-law
to
the
king.
And
the
days
had
not
been
fulfilled.
27
And
David
rose
up
and
went
out,
he
and
his
men.
And
they
struck
two
hundred
men
of
the
Philistines.
And
David
brought
their
foreskins,
and
he
gave
them
in
full
to
the
king,
in
order
to
be
son-in-law
to
the
king.
And
Saul
gave
him
his
daughter
Michal
for
a
wife.
28
And
Saul
saw
and
knew
that
Jehovah
was
with
David,
and
that
Saul's
daughter
Michal
loved
him.
29
And
Saul
was
still
more
afraid
of
David.
And
Saul
was
an
enemy
to
David
continually.
30
And
the
rulers
of
the
Philistines
came
out.
And
it
happened
from
the
time
they
came
out,
David
acted
more
wisely
than
all
the
servants
of
Saul.
And
His
name
was
greatly
esteemed.

But
Moses

in
the

"If
the

then
how

1
When
David
had
finished
speaking
with
Saul,
Jonathan
committed
himself
to
David,
and
loved
him
as
much
as
he
loved
himself.
2
Saul
kept
David
with
him
from
that
day
on
and
did
not
let
him
return
to
his
father's
house.
3
Jonathan
made
a
covenant
with
David
because
he
loved
him
as
much
as
himself.
4
Then
Jonathan
removed
the
robe
he
was
wearing
and
gave
it
to
David,
along
with
his
military
tunic,
his
sword,
his
bow,
and
his
belt.
5
David
marched
out
with
the
army,
and
was
successful
in
everything
Saul
sent
him
to
do.
Saul
put
him
in
command
of
the
soldiers,
which
pleased
all
the
people
and
Saul's
servants
as
well.
6
As
David
was
returning
from
killing
the
Philistine,
the
women
came
out
from
all
the
cities
of
Israel
to
meet
King
Saul,
singing
and
dancing
with
tambourines,
with
shouts
of
joy,
and
with
three-stringed
instruments.
7
As
they
celebrated,
the
women
sang:
Saul
has
killed
his
thousands,
but
David
his
tens
of
thousands.
8
Saul
was
furious
and
resented
this
song.
"They
credited
tens
of
thousands
to
David,"
he
complained,
"but
they
only
credited
me
with
thousands.
What
more
can
he
have
but
the
kingdom?"
9
So
Saul
watched
David
jealously
from
that
day
forward.
10
The
next
day
an
evil
spirit
from
God
took
control
of
Saul,
and
he
began
to
rave
inside
the
palace.
David
was
playing
the
harp
as
usual,
but
Saul
was
holding
a
spear,
11
and
he
threw
it,
thinking,
"I'll
pin
David
to
the
wall."
But
David
got
away
from
him
twice.
12
Saul
was
afraid
of
David,
because
the
LORD
was
with
David
but
had
left
from
Saul.
13
Therefore,
Saul
reassigned
David
and
made
him
commander
over
1,000
men.
David
led
the
troops
14
and
continued
to
be
successful
in
all
his
activities
because
the
LORD
was
with
him.
15
When
Saul
observed
that
David
was
very
successful,
he
dreaded
him.
16
But
all
Israel
and
Judah
loved
David
because
he
was
leading
their
troops.
17
Saul
told
David,
"Here
is
my
oldest
daughter
Merab.
I'll
give
her
to
you
as
a
wife,
if
you
will
be
a
warrior
for
me
and
fight
the
LORD's
battles."
But
Saul
was
thinking,
"My
hand
doesn't
need
to
be
against
him;
let
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
be
against
him."
18
Then
David
responded,
"Who
am
I,
and
what
is
my
family
or
my
father's
clan
in
Israel
that
I
should
become
the
king's
son-in-law?"
19
When
it
was
time
to
give
Saul's
daughter
Merab
to
David,
she
was
given
to
Adriel
the
Meholathite
as
a
wife.
20
Now
Saul's
daughter
Michal
loved
David,
and
when
it
was
reported
to
Saul,
it
pleased
him.
21
"I'll
give
her
to
him,"
Saul
thought.
"She'll
be
a
trap
for
him,
and
the
hand
of
the
Philistines
will
be
against
him."
So
Saul
said
to
David
a
second
time,
"You
can
now
be
my
son-in-law."
22
Saul
then
ordered
his
servants,
"Speak
to
David
in
private
and
tell
him,
'Look,
the
king
is
pleased
with
you,
and
all
his
servants
love
you.
Therefore,
you
should
become
the
king's
son-in-law.'"
23
Saul's
servants
reported
these
words
directly
to
David,
but
he
replied,
"Is
it
trivial
in
your
sight
to
become
the
king's
son-in-law?
I
am
a
poor
man
who
is
common."
24
The
servants
reported
back
to
Saul,
"These
are
the
words
David
spoke."
25
Then
Saul
replied,
"Say
this
to
David:
'The
king
desires
no
other
bride-price
except
100
Philistine
foreskins,
to
take
revenge
on
his
enemies.'
"
Actually,
Saul
intended
to
cause
David's
death
at
the
hands
of
the
Philistines.
26
When
the
servants
reported
these
terms
to
David,
he
was
pleased
to
become
the
king's
son-in-law.
Before
the
wedding
day
arrived,
27
David
and
his
men
went
out
and
killed
200
Philistines.
He
brought
their
foreskins
and
presented
them
as
full
payment
to
the
king
to
become
his
son-in-law.
Then
Saul
gave
his
daughter
Michal
to
David
as
his
wife.
28
Saul
realized
that
the
LORD
was
with
David
and
that
his
daughter
Michal
loved
him,
29
and
he
became
even
more
afraid
of
David.
As
a
result,
Saul
was
David's
enemy
from
then
on.
30
Every
time
the
Philistine
commanders
came
out
to
fight,
David
was
more
successful
than
all
of
Saul's
officers.
So
his
name
became
very
famous.
