1. Behold now, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, will take away from Jerusalem and from Judea the mighty man and mighty woman, the strength of bread, and the strength of water,
1. For H3588 , behold H2009 , the Lord H113 , the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635 , doth take away H5493 from Jerusalem H4480 H3389 and from Judah H4480 H3063 the stay H4937 and the staff H4938 , the whole H3605 stay H4937 of bread H3899 , and the whole H3605 stay H4937 of water H4325 ,
2. the great and mighty man, the warrior and the judge, and the prophet, and the counsellor, and the elder,
2. The mighty H1368 man , and the man H376 of war H4421 , the judge H8199 , and the prophet H5030 , and the prudent H7080 , and the ancient H2205 ,
3. the captain of fifty also, and the honourable counsellor, and the wise artificer, and the intelligent hearer.
3. The captain H8269 of fifty H2572 , and the honorable man H5375 H6440 , and the counselor H3289 , and the cunning H2450 artificer H2796 , and the eloquent H995 orator H3908 .
4. And I will make youths their princes, and mockers shall have dominion over them.
4. And I will give H5414 children H5288 to be their princes H8269 , and babes H8586 shall rule H4910 over them.
5. And the people shall fall, man upon man, and every man upon his neighbor: the child shall insult the elder man, and the base the honourable.
5. And the people H5971 shall be oppressed H5065 , every one H376 by another H376 , and every one H376 by his neighbor H7453 : the child H5288 shall behave himself proudly H7292 against the ancient H2205 , and the base H7034 against the honorable H3513 .
6. For a man shall lay hold of his brother, as one of his father’s household, saying, Thou hast raiment, be thou our ruler, and let my meat be under thee.
6. When H3588 a man H376 shall take hold H8610 of his brother H251 of the house H1004 of his father H1 , saying , Thou hast clothing H8071 , be H1961 thou our ruler H7101 , and let this H2063 ruin H4384 be under H8478 thy hand H3027 :
7. And he shall answer in that day, and say, I will not be thy ruler; for I have no bread in my house, nor raiment: I will not be the ruler of this people.
7. In that H1931 day H3117 shall he swear H5375 , saying H559 , I will not H3808 be H1961 a healer H2280 ; for in my house H1004 is neither H369 bread H3899 nor H369 clothing H8071 : make H7760 me not H3808 a ruler H7101 of the people H5971 .
8. For Jerusalem is Or, forsaken, or, let go ruined, and Judea has fallen, and their tongues have spoken with iniquity, disobedient as they are towards the Lord.
8. For H3588 Jerusalem H3389 is ruined H3782 , and Judah H3063 is fallen H5307 : because H3588 their tongue H3956 and their doings H4611 are against H413 the LORD H3068 , to provoke H4784 the eyes H5869 of his glory H3519 .
9. Wherefore now their glory has been brought low, and the shame of their countenance has withstood them, and they have proclaimed their sin as Sodom, and made it manifest.
9. The show H1971 of their countenance H6440 doth witness H6030 against them ; and they declare H5046 their sin H2403 as Sodom H5467 , they hide H3582 it not H3808 . Woe H188 unto their soul H5315 ! for H3588 they have rewarded H1580 evil H7451 unto themselves.
10. Woe to their soul, for they have devised an evil counsel against themselves, saying against themselves, Let us bind the just, for he is burdensome to us: therefore shall they eat the fruits of their works.
10. Say H559 ye to the righteous H6662 , that H3588 it shall be well H2895 with him : for H3588 they shall eat H398 the fruit H6529 of their doings H4611 .
11. Woe to the transgressor! Evils shall happen to him according to the works of his hands.
11. Woe H188 unto the wicked H7563 ! it shall be ill H7451 with him : for H3588 the reward H1576 of his hands H3027 shall be given H6213 him.
12. O my people, your exactors Gr. glean you strip you, and extortioners rule over you: O my people, they that pronounce you blessed lead you astray, and pervert the path of your feet.
12. As for my people H5971 , children H5768 are their oppressors H5065 , and women H802 rule H4910 over them . O my people H5971 , they which lead H833 thee cause thee to err H8582 , and destroy H1104 the way H1870 of thy paths H734 .
13. But now the Lord will stand up for judgement, and will enter into judgement with his people.
13. The LORD H3068 standeth up H5324 to plead H7378 , and standeth H5975 to judge H1777 the people H5971 .
14. The Lord himself shall enter into judgement with the elders of the people, and with their rulers: but why have ye set my vineyard on fire, and why is the spoil of the poor in your houses?
14. The LORD H3068 will enter H935 into judgment H4941 with H5973 the ancients H2205 of his people H5971 , and the princes H8269 thereof : for ye H859 have eaten up H1197 the vineyard H3754 ; the spoil H1500 of the poor H6041 is in your houses H1004 .
15. Why do ye wrong my people, and shame the face of the poor?
15. What mean ye H4100 that ye beat my people to pieces H1792 H5971 , and grind H2912 the faces H6440 of the poor H6041 ? saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3068 of hosts H6635 .
16. Thus saith the Lord, Because the daughters of Sion are haughty, and have walked with an outstretched neck, and with winking of the eyes, and motion of the feet, at the same time drawing their garments in trains, and at the same time sporting with their feet:
16. Moreover the LORD H3068 saith H559 , Because H3282 H3588 the daughters H1323 of Zion H6726 are haughty H1361 , and walk H1980 with stretched forth H5186 necks H1627 and wanton H8265 eyes H5869 , walking H1980 and mincing H2952 as they go H1980 , and making a tinkling H5913 with their feet H7272 :
17. therefore the Lord will humble the chief daughters of Sion, and the Lord will expose their form in that day;
17. Therefore the Lord H136 will smite with a scab H5596 the crown of the head H6936 of the daughters H1323 of Zion H6726 , and the LORD H3068 will discover H6168 their secret parts H6596 .
18. and the Lord will take away the glory of their raiment, the curls and the fringes, and the crescents,
18. In that H1931 day H3117 the Lord H136 will take away H5493 H853 the bravery H8597 of their tinkling ornaments H5914 about their feet , and their cauls H7636 , and their round tires H7720 like the moon,
19. and the chains, and the ornaments of their faces,
19. The chains H5188 , and the bracelets H8285 , and the mufflers H7479 ,
20. and the array of glorious ornaments, and the armlets, and the bracelets, and the wreathed work, and the finger-rings, and the ornaments for the right hand,
20. The bonnets H6287 , and the ornaments of the legs H6807 , and the headbands H7196 , and the tablets H1004 H5315 , and the earrings H3908 ,
21. and the ear-rings, and the garments with scarlet borders,
21. The rings H2885 , and nose H639 jewels H5141 ,
22. and the garments with purple grounds, and the shawls to be worn in the house, and the Spartan transparent dresses,
22. The changeable suits of apparel H4254 , and the mantles H4595 , and the wimples H4304 , and the crisping pins H2754 ,
23. and those made of fine linen, and the purple ones, and the scarlet ones, and the fine linen, interwoven with gold and purple, and the light coverings for couches.
23. The glasses H1549 , and the fine linen H5466 , and the hoods H6797 , and the veils H7289 .
24. And there shall be instead of a sweet smell, dust; and instead of a girdle, thou shalt gird thyself with a rope; and instead of a golden ornament for the head, thou shalt have baldness on account of thy works; and instead of a tunic with a scarlet ground, thou shalt gird thyself with sackcloth.
24. And it shall come to pass H1961 , that instead H8478 of sweet smell H1314 there shall be H1961 stink H4716 ; and instead H8478 of a girdle H2290 a rent H5364 ; and instead H8478 of well set H4639 hair H4748 baldness H7144 ; and instead H8478 of a stomacher H6614 a girding H4228 of sackcloth H8242 ; and burning H3587 instead H8478 of beauty H3308 .
25. And thy most beautiful son whom thou lovest shall fall by the sword; and your mighty men shall fall by the sword, and shall be brought low.
25. Thy men H4962 shall fall H5307 by the sword H2719 , and thy mighty H1369 in the war H4421 .
26. And the Gr. cases, or, repositories stores of your ornaments shall mourn, and thou shalt be left alone, and shalt be levelled with the ground.
26. And her gates H6607 shall lament H578 and mourn H56 ; and she being desolate H5352 shall sit H3427 upon the ground H776 .
