4. On the day you were born, your cordn was not cut. You were not washed with water to clean you. You were not rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths.

7. I made you grow like a plant in the field. You grew up and became tall and became like a beautiful jewel. Your breasts formed, and your hair grew, but you were naked and without clothes.

9. "'Then I bathed you with water, washed all the blood off of you, and put oil on you.

10. I put beautiful clothes made with needlework on you and put sandals of fine leather on your feet. I wrapped you in fine linen and covered you with silk.

11. I put jewelry on you: bracelets on your arms, a necklace around your neck,

12. a ring in your nose, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.

13. So you wore gold and silver. Your clothes were made of fine linen, silk, and beautiful needlework. You ate fine flour, honey, and olive oil. You were very beautiful and became a queen.

13. 14. Then you became famous among the nations, because you were so beautiful. Your beauty was perfect, because of the glory I gave you, says the Lord God.

15. "'But you trusted in your beauty. You became a prostitute, because you were so famous. You had sexual relations with anyone who passed by.
|
15. But thou didst trust H982 in thine own beauty H3308 , and playedst the harlot H2181 because H5921 of thy renown H8034 , and pouredst out H8210 H853 thy fornications H8457 on H5921 every one H3605 that passed by H5674 ; his it was H1961 .

|
16. You took some of your clothes and made your places of worship colorful. There you carried on your prostitution. These things should not happen; they should never occur.
|

17. You also took your beautiful jewelry, made from my gold and silver I had given you, and you made for yourselves male idols so you could be a prostitute with them.

18. Then you took your clothes with beautiful needlework and covered the idols. You gave my oil and incense as an offering to them.

19. Also, you took the bread I gave you, the fine flour, oil, and honey I gave you to eat, and you offered them before the gods as a pleasing smell. This is what happened, says the Lord God.

20. "'But your sexual sins were not enough for you. You also took your sons and daughters who were my children, and you sacrificed them to the idols as food.

21. You killed my children and offered them up in fire to the idols.

|
22. While you did all your hateful acts and sexual sins, you did not remember when you were young, when you were naked and had no clothes and were left in your blood.
|

23. "'How terrible! How terrible it will be for you, says the Lord God. After you did all these evil things,

23. And it came to pass H1961 after H310 all H3605 thy wickedness H7451 , ( woe H188 , woe H188 unto thee! saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 ;)

|
24. you built yourself a place to worship gods. You made for yourself a place of worship in every city square.
|
24. That thou hast also built H1129 unto thee an eminent place H1354 , and hast made H6213 thee a high place H7413 in every H3605 street H7339 .
|
|
25. You built a place of worship at the beginning of every street. You made your beauty hateful, offering your body for sex to anyone who passed by, so your sexual sins became worse and worse.
|
25. Thou hast built H1129 thy high place H7413 at H413 every H3605 head H7218 of the way H1870 , and hast made H853 thy beauty H3308 to be abhorred H8581 , and hast opened H6589 H853 thy feet H7272 to every one H3605 that passed by H5674 , and multiplied H7235 H853 thy whoredoms H8457 .

26. You also had sexual relations with the Egyptians, who were your neighbors and partners in sexual sin. Your sexual sins became even worse, and they caused me to be angry.

27. So then, I used my power against you and took away some of your land. I let you be defeated by those who hate you, the Philistine women, who were ashamed of your evil ways.

28. Also, you had sexual relations with the Assyrians, because you could not be satisfied. Even though you had sexual relations with them, you still were not satisfied.

29. You did many more sexual sins in Babylonia, the land of traders, but even this did not satisfy you.

29. Thou hast moreover multiplied H7235 H853 thy fornication H8457 in H413 the land H776 of Canaan H3667 unto Chaldea H3778 ; and yet H1571 thou wast not H3808 satisfied H7646 herewith H2063 .

30. "'Truly your will is weak, says the Lord God. You do all the things a stubborn prostitute does.
|
30. How H4100 weak H535 is thine heart H3826 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 , seeing thou doest H6213 H853 all H3605 these H428 things , the work H4639 of an imperious H7986 whorish H2181 woman H802 ;

31. You built your place to worship gods at the beginning of every street, and you made places of worship in every city square. But you were not like a prostitute when you refused to accept payment.
|
31. In that thou buildest H1129 thine eminent place H1354 in the head H7218 of every H3605 way H1870 , and makest H6213 thine high place H7413 in every H3605 street H7339 ; and hast not H3808 been H1961 as a harlot H2181 , in that thou scornest H7046 hire H868 ;

32. "'You are a wife who is guilty of adultery. You desire strangers instead of your husband.
|
32. But as a wife H802 that committeth adultery H5003 , which taketh H3947 H853 strangers H2114 instead H8478 of her husband H376 !
|
|
33. Men pay prostitutes, but you pay all your lovers to come to you. And they come from all around for sexual relations.
|
33. They give H5414 gifts H5078 to all H3605 whores H2181 : but thou H859 givest H5414 H853 thy gifts H5083 to all H3605 thy lovers H157 , and hirest H7809 them , that they may come H935 unto H413 thee on every side H4480 H5439 for thy whoredom H8457 .

34. So you are different from other prostitutes. No man asks you to be a prostitute, and you pay money instead of having money paid to you. Yes, you are different.
|
34. And the contrary H2016 is H1961 in thee from H4480 other women H802 in thy whoredoms H8457 , whereas none H3808 followeth H310 thee to commit whoredoms H2181 : and in that thou givest H5414 a reward H868 , and no H3808 reward H868 is given H5414 unto thee , therefore thou art H1961 contrary H2016 .

35. "'So, prostitute, hear the word of the Lord.
|
35. Wherefore H3651 , O harlot H2181 , hear H8085 the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 :

36. This is what the Lord God says: You showed your nakedness to other countries. You uncovered your body in your sexual sins with them as your lovers and with all your hateful idols. You killed your children and offered their blood to your idols.

36. Thus H3541 saith H559 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 ; Because H3282 thy filthiness H5178 was poured out H8210 , and thy nakedness H6172 discovered H1540 through thy whoredoms H8457 with H5921 thy lovers H157 , and with H5921 all H3605 the idols H1544 of thy abominations H8441 , and by the blood H1818 of thy children H1121 , which H834 thou didst give H5414 unto them;

37. So I will gather all your lovers with whom you found pleasure. Yes, I will gather all those you loved and those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around, and I will strip you naked in front of them so they can see your nakedness.

37. 38. I will punish you as women guilty of adultery or as murderers are punished. I will put you to death because I am angry and jealous.

39. I will also hand you over to your lovers. They will tear down your places of worship and destroy other places where you worship gods. They will tear off your clothes and take away your jewelry, leaving you naked and bare.

39. And I will also give H5414 thee into their hand H3027 , and they shall throw down H2040 thine eminent place H1354 , and shall break down H5422 thy high places H7413 : they shall strip H6584 thee also of thy clothes H899 , and shall take H3947 thy fair H8597 jewels H3627 , and leave H5117 thee naked H5903 and bare H6181 .

40. They will bring a crowd against you to throw stones at you and to cut you into pieces with their swords.
|
40. They shall also bring up H5927 a company H6951 against H5921 thee , and they shall stone H7275 thee with stones H68 , and thrust thee through H1333 with their swords H2719 .
|
|
41. They will burn down your houses and will punish you in front of many women. I will put an end to your sexual sins, and you will no longer pay your lovers.
|
41. And they shall burn H8313 thine houses H1004 with fire H784 , and execute H6213 judgments H8201 upon thee in the sight H5869 of many H7227 women H802 : and I will cause thee to cease H7673 from playing the harlot H4480 H2181 , and thou also H1571 shalt give H5414 no H3808 hire H868 any more H5750 .

42. Then I will rest from my anger against you, and I will stop being jealous. I will be quiet and not angry anymore.
|
42. So will I make my fury H2534 toward thee to rest H5117 , and my jealousy H7068 shall depart H5493 from H4480 thee , and I will be quiet H8252 , and will be no H3808 more H5750 angry H3707 .

|
43. "'Because you didn't remember when you were young, but have made me angry in all these ways, I will repay you for what you have done, says the Lord God. Didn't you add sexual sins to all your other acts which I hate?
|
43. 44. "'Everyone who uses wise sayings will say this about you: "The daughter is like her mother."
|
44. Behold H2009 , every one H3605 that useth proverbs H4911 shall use this proverb H4911 against H5921 thee, saying H559 , As is the mother H517 , so is her daughter H1323 .

45. You are like your mother, who hated her husband and children. You are also like your sisters, who hated their husbands and children. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father was an Amorite.
|
45. Thou H859 art thy mother H517 's daughter H1323 , that loatheth H1602 her husband H376 and her children H1121 ; and thou H859 art the sister H269 of thy sisters H269 , which H834 loathed H1602 their husbands H376 and their children H1121 : your mother H517 was a Hittite H2851 , and your father H1 an Amorite H567 .

46. Your older sister is Samaria, who lived north of you with her daughters; your younger sister is Sodom, who lived south of you with her daughters.

47. You not only followed their ways and did the hateful things they did, but you were soon worse than they were in all your ways.

47. Yet hast thou not H3808 walked H1980 after their ways H1870 , nor done H6213 after their abominations H8441 : but , as if that were a very H6985 little H4592 thing , thou wast corrupted H7843 more than H4480 they in all H3605 thy ways H1870 .

48. As surely as I live, says the Lord God, this is true. Your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you and your daughters have done.

48. As I H589 live H2416 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 , Sodom H5467 thy sister H269 hath not H518 done H6213 , she H1931 nor her daughters H1323 , as H834 thou hast done H6213 , thou H859 and thy daughters H1323 .

49. "'This was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were proud and had plenty of food and lived in great comfort, but she did not help the poor and needy.
|
49. Behold H2009 , this H2088 was H1961 the iniquity H5771 of thy sister H269 Sodom H5467 , pride H1347 , fullness H7653 of bread H3899 , and abundance H7962 of idleness H8252 was H1961 in her and in her daughters H1323 , neither H3808 did she strengthen H2388 the hand H3027 of the poor H6041 and needy H34 .

50. So Sodom and her daughters were proud and did things I hate in front of me. So I got rid of them when I saw what they did.

51. Also, Samaria did not do half the sins you do; you have done more hateful things than they did. So you make your sisters look good because of all the hateful things you have done.

52. You will suffer disgrace, because you have provided an excuse for your sisters. They are better than you are. Your sins were even more terrible than theirs. Feel ashamed and suffer disgrace, because you made your sisters look good.

53. "'But I will give back to Sodom and her daughters the good things they once had. I will give back to Samaria and her daughters the good things they once had. And with them I will also give back the good things you once had

53. When I shall bring again H7725 H853 their captivity H7622 , H853 the captivity H7622 of Sodom H5467 and her daughters H1323 , and the captivity H7622 of Samaria H8111 and her daughters H1323 , then will I bring again the captivity H7622 of thy captives H7622 in the midst H8432 of them:

54. so you may suffer disgrace and feel ashamed for all the things you have done. You even gave comfort to your sisters in their sins.
|

55. Your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to what they were before. You and your daughters will also return to what you were before.

56. You humiliated your sister Sodom when you were proud,
|
56. For thy sister H269 Sodom H5467 was H1961 not H3808 mentioned H8052 by thy mouth H6310 in the day H3117 of thy pride H1347 ,
|
|
57. before your evil was uncovered. And now the Edomite women and their neighbors humiliate you. Even the Philistine women humiliate you. Those around you hate you.

57. Before H2962 thy wickedness H7451 was discovered H1540 , as at H3644 the time H6256 of thy reproach H2781 of the daughters H1323 of Syria H758 , and all H3605 that are round about H5439 her , the daughters H1323 of the Philistines H6430 , which despise H7590 thee round about H4480 H5439 .

58. This is your punishment for your terrible sins and for actions that I hate, says the Lord.

59. "'This is what the Lord God says: I will do to you what you have done. You hated and broke the agreement you promised to keep.
|
59. For H3588 thus H3541 saith H559 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 ; I will even deal H6213 with H854 thee as H834 thou hast done H6213 , which H834 hast despised H959 the oath H423 in breaking H6565 the covenant H1285 .

60. But I will remember my agreement I made with you when you were young, and I will make an agreement that will continue forever with you.
|
60. Nevertheless I H589 will remember H2142 H853 my covenant H1285 with H854 thee with thee in the days H3117 of thy youth H5271 , and I will establish H6965 unto thee an everlasting H5769 covenant H1285 .

61. Then you will remember what you have done and feel ashamed when you receive your sisters -- both your older and your younger sisters. I will give them to you like daughters, but not because they share in my agreement with you.
|

62. I will set up my agreement with you, and you will know that I am the Lord.

63. You will remember what you did and feel ashamed. You will not open your mouth again because of your shame, when I forgive you for all the things you have done, says the Lord God.'"
